An Atlas of Imagination

With this atlas, the author invites you to travel a route far from linear. It will take you from Utah to China to the moon, and from the 16th century to now. Along the way, you’ll be surprised by bridges, steel mills, ice skaters and other intruders. They come from old postcards collected over the years. By collaging parts of the postcard images onto historical and modern maps, the author has created a crisscross of time and space. Mid-twentieth-century New York City automobiles drive across Spain in 1850, for example. In other words, cartography has been transformed into surrealist art. Through the alchemy of collage, this atlas will transport you to reimagined places past and present.
