Gentle Soldier

This book presents the email dispatches of Peter W. Schmidt, a U.S. Army soldier serving in Iraq during the "surge" of 2007. After basic training, he joined the 4th Stryker Combat Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, and was assigned to the brigade’s 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment. During his tour in Iraq, Cpl. Schmidt served in and around Baghdad as a Captain's assistant, radio telephone operator, and Arabic translator.
