Ryan grows up in an oppressive upper class family. His father was abusive and his mother noncommittal and materialistic. Miriam is a hardworking girl from a not so well off family, but there is more to this 'simple' girl than that meets the eye. The story is a multifaceted well crafted piece of art worth a read.
