These stories are highly individual; they have two assets which might sometimes be considered unusual bedfellows; they are very direct and understandable, they communicate immediately to the reader and they also deal through the metaphor of the J.C.'s, with a level of spirituality that gives them a unique quality.
In each case, an atmosphere is cleverly and imaginatively created, the story builds to a climax while creating character and situation, and then, inevitably, to an ending. But although there is in each story a narrative purpose, this is writing that is not entirely narrative driven; the real material is the landscape of the mind, and our imagination of the times of Jesus.
These stories are imaginative and individual which are complementary and sit well together.
