A Sad, Sad Day

"A Sad, Sad Day" features on its front cover an exclusive original drawing of General Robert E. Lee with his horse Traveller and General John D. Imboden after day three at Gettysburg. This small 32 page book, only available on Lulu, contains General Imboden's personal account of his interactions with General Lee before, during and after the battle of Gettysburg which inspired this one of its kind drawing. General Imboden explains his personal responsibilities as ordered by General Lee to evacuate the wounded Confederate solders back to Virginia describing in detail this horrific journey. The remainder of the book tells the story of the defensive intrenchments and barricades being built north of Gettysburg in Morrisons Cove Pennsylvania by volunteer militia to block the mountain passes and gaps to stop the Confederate armies advance. Near the end of the book is a picture of the Morrisons Cove Gettysburg Memorial located in Martinsburg, Pa., dedicated in 2021 to the 70 men from the area who fought at Gettysburg. The back cover of the book is a portion of an 1864 Pennsylvania map where you can follow the movements of the armies and locate the defensive positions of the volunteer militia.
