Samuel Seeks Mister Lincoln, takes you on a trip with this young fourteen year old slave from deep in Virginia, hopefully, to Washington. His mother had told him on her deathbed that Mister Lincoln would take care of things. The time period is shortly after the Battle of Fredericksburg, December 13, 1862. All of the Civil War events, and the Underground Railroad are true. Harriet Tubman, Aunt Mary Dines are real. Duff Greens Row was a contraband camp on Capitol Hill. Abraham Lincoln did visit Mary and Uncle Ben, who could not read, but did all the praying for the “old folks.” Abe would go to listen to Uncle Ben and to hear and sing with the people when his heart was heavy due to the Civil War.
