Chatham Center - Two Centuries

The history of Chatham Center, a community in Columbia County, New York, over a two hundred year period from 1800 to 2000. The book is the fourth in a series by the author Richard J. Dorsey, covering Riders Mills, Malden Bridge, North Chatham, and Old Chatham. The author includes extensive sketches by local artist Tom Fraser to show the present essentials of the subject properties. The community was settled by people mostly of Dutch origin and was a crossroads located in the eastern part of a then much larger Albany County. Columbia County itself did not come into a separate existence until 1786, and Chatham was formed from parts of the Columbia County Towns of Kinderhook and Canaan. The insert map for the 1888 Columbia County Atlas shows details of the buildings and owners in the heart of the settlement.
