For as far back as anyone can trace, humans have used colour to brighten and enliven their surroundings.
The ancient Egyptians used colour in abundance, from clothing and wallcoverings to furnishings and tombs.
They understood the importance of colour and knew how to create and use it to best effect.
The same can be said for the Romans and the Greeks, two civilizations that applied their specific tastes to walls and to spectacular effect on their tiled floors and surfaces.Even early cave dwellers were known to have drawn
animals and patterns on their roughly-hewn walls. It’s no exaggeration to surmise therefore, that people have
an almost instinctive desire and reaction to colours in general.
Having worked with many professionals over some years, I have come to the conclusion, that although
most people like the idea of colour within their home, there is a fear or resistance to using it within the
average home.
The first thing to understand is the basis of colour and how we can use it. Within the following pages I will
explain the strengths and pitfalls to avoid when using certain colours. I will also point to ways in which you
can use colour to best effect, how to adapt your own colour tastes and how to steer clear of the disaster
areas.
So, put the kettle on, sit back and relax while we explore the wonderful world of COLOUR
