zond Transmissions

The ZOND anthologies were published between 1991 and 1994 featuring stories from a places and times that might have been. Stories of what nearly happened. ZOND was the name given to a series of probes sent by the Russian space agency to orbit the moon and return. A manned version was to be launched in 1968 which would have beaten NASA to that goal. However for safety and political reasons they sent terrapins instead. The name seemed appropriate for the collections. All the contributors had an idea of the theme although interpreted it in their own individual ways. As well as work that appeared in the published anthologies. Pages have been included that were to have gone into later, never completed, issues and also some older work which informed what came later. The ZOND anthologies were a testing ground for lots of Ideas and themes and as such make an interesting time piece.
