There aren't many things I really and totally hate, but one of them is the town where I was born and bred. Doncaster is a town in South Yorkshire, in England, which is part of the United Kingdom and is a place where the people are described as being “a breed apart.” But what most people do not realize is just how ultimately awful it is, both to be born there and to live there. The people that I have come across in my 40+ years in Doncaster have made me into the person that I am now, an embittered and grief filled personality that states his intentions never to go back to Doncaster ever again once my wife's mother passes. I shall walk away from such a horrible place and deny as much as possible any connection to the hell hole. Recently I was watching a TV program, where in an episode of a crime thriller series set in Australia, there was a lady reading from a book that she had published about how she hated the town of Ballarat, near Melbourne. She wrote the words of the book and had it published and then went on a tour sharing readings from the book, so when she got to Ballarat, she read it out and it was an amusing scene because it was meant to be funny. At that moment I said to my wife how much fun I could have if I chose to do something like that about Doncaster, because it would be a cathartic release. This little book of horrors is therefore, the realization of that thought, because once the thought hit me, I couldn't let go of it and so I set out to 20 chapter plot line so I could concentrate on certain things in each chapter and not just one thing or another that didn't make a great deal of sense. It made me think of school and how I hated it and the people. It made me think of family, of work places and colleagues, some of which are based on real folk and it made me think of how in 2005, we finally got rid of Doncaster. But the truth of the matter is you can take the boy out of Doncaster, but not Doncaster out of the boy and so, this diatribe is meant to share a pain filled life, but also a rage induced slandering against a place and its people for making my life a bloody misery all these years. Thank you Doncaster, for making me the man I am, but know this, as much as I enjoyed gutting all you soulless thugs, I also seek to entertain. We all love a person who can and does say it as it is. I make no apology for doing just that.
