Ron Williams, in his second book, The Looping Horse, shares the experiences of a small tobacco farm family living in the 1950’s. Through the eyes of Pete Wilson, the family’s ten year old son, you will meet many of the local farmers and small town’s people living in the land along the Chowan River. Each of them has their own story and impact upon the Wilson household as they also coax life from the dark loamy soil along the river. When the Wilsons help a recent widow and her granddaughter, TJ, get acclimated to the community, it forever changes their lives in ways they could have never imagined. Over the course of a summer, Pete shares his life on the farm and and river with TJ as their friendship begins to grow. Trust, joy, and heartache are experienced by both families as the lives of the two families grow closer together.
