While in Paris on an assignment for a French tabloid called The Paris Match, Dominic Resnais, the Australian son of Scottish mother and French father, meets and falls in love with the beautiful, feisty Cléo Delon, who is one-time French matinee idol, Alain Delon's niece.
Even though their love is very passionate and quite consuming, they still find time to do good work. When they combine their efforts as sports journalists, they attract enough professional attention to be sent to Brussels to help the police and the FBI track down the infamous "fat man," Maurice de Plaat. With the help of hired assassins such as a curious pair named Günther and Hans, de Plaat runs a pedophile ring for rich and famous men in Europe.
Using details from the Detroux Scandal, an actual case that occurred in Brussels a few years ago, Barber mixes crime and romance in a setting that reaches across the globe, from Australia to Europe.
