When Kirsten Rudbeck's boyfriend Luke is killed by a drunk driver she decides to leave the Bay Area and start a new life in Denver. But late one night she gets a call from San Francisco. Her brother Karl, a scientist at a Swiss research institute, was murdered while attending a conference in the City. Kirsten must find the courage to return to California to help hunt for Karl's killer. After all, she knows that one of Karl's former colleagues was faking his data and that Karl was going to expose the fraud at the conference. In San Francisco, on the ski slopes of Colorado, and later in Switzerland, Kirsten discovers that Karl wasn't just an innocent whistleblower. Nearly everyone in Karl's lab in Basel has a motive to kill him, and as she gets closer to the truth, someone might want to kill her, too.
