When India became independent from Britain and Pakistan seceded from India, the fate of the area of Kashmir became controversial. Having a largely Muslim population, it would have made sense for Kashmir to join Pakistan, but India was not terribly interested in that solution. Moreover, in China there is a third player involved as well. The status of Kashmir is the subject of this interesting book. The book looks at some rare documents and historical narrative that is reasonably convincing and, at its best moments, subtle and nuanced in its analysis. The book is composed of three basic parts. First is the historical aspect of the Kashmir Dispute explaining how it emerged and how it has developed into an international dispute? Second is the study into the boundaries of Kashmir, keeping in mind the historical aspects. Third is the international law with respect to international boundary disputes.
