Word From The Streets

Reminiscent of the Civil Rights Movement, thousands marched in protest of the mur - der of Sean Bell and others by police. They marched from 59th to Macy's Department Store on 34th Street, blocking traffic and hampering Christmas shoppers. As police stood, surrounded by the massive crowd of at least 20,000 onlookers who cheered them on, they marched silently, respectful of the family’s wishes. They were led by Rev. Al Sharpton, Rev. Calvin Butts, Rev. Johnny Green and other leaders of the community, including New York Congressman Charles Rangel, who, from the look on his face, liked what he saw.
