Iranian music includes music produced by Iranian artists. In addition to traditional folk and classical genres, it also includes pop and international styles such as jazz, rock and hip-hop.
Iranian music influenced other cultures in West Asia and created much of the musical terminology of neighboring Turkish and Arabic cultures and reached India through the 16th century Mughal Empire, whose court promoted new forms of music by bringing Iranian musicians.
classic music
The classical music of Iran includes all kinds of melodies that were created through the classical and medieval periods of the country. Dastgah, a musical mode in Iranian classical music, despite its popularity, has always been the preserve of the elite. Dastgah's influence is seen as a reservoir of originality that other forms of music genres inspire melodically and performatively.
local music
Iranian folk, ceremonial, and popular songs may be considered "indigenous" in the sense that they are known and appreciated by a large part of society (as opposed to art music, which mostly caters to the more elite social classes. ) The variance of Iranian folk music is often emphasized according to the cultural diversity of local and ethnic groups in the country.
