I have decided to print these anecdotes because I am in despair with the apparent standards of nursing care. There never was a time, until now, that I wasn’t proud of my profession. Now I am often embarrassed to let on that I was a nurse. In recent years I have been a patient in hospitals and have visited patients in hospitals and nursing homes. In my opinion, the casual, sometimes callous, attitudes of many nurses and the often lack of emphasis on hygiene would never have been tolerated by those responsible for my training.
