It seemed like a good idea at the time, travelling to the communist East Germany for a cultural exchange. It was early 1989 and the Berlin Wall was standing firm, at least for the moment. I was there to learn about philosophy, but the GDR’s secret police had other ideas, and before I knew it, I was plunged into a world of spies, intrigue, and local apparatchiks. How would I get back home? And, more importantly, how would I rescue the burgeoning love I had found there? Part spy mystery and part love story, this is a wry, tongue-in-cheek tale built around the fall of the Berlin Wall.
