Solomon Kumangar’s book, FINTIRI: THE MAN THEY COULD NOT STOP, presents the present Governor of Adamawa State, RT. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, fondly called AUF, as a ‘great leader’. To corroborate his declaration, the author relates other people’s affirmations of Governor Fintiri as a great leader. Not only that, the book equally emphasises this by highlighting the people-oriented policies and activities (projects) of the governor as the Chief Executive of Adamawa State. The book gives the background to the political life of AUF as he is lovingly addressed. How he emerged from the politically unknown to the politically known. Now, the governor is well known both in Adamawa State and nationally. It has been observed that since he has been elected the Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Fintiri, has been doing things in unusual ways. That is, the Governor, as described in the book, has changed the popularly known negative face of governance of Adamawa State where things were moribund, knowing full well that one cannot continue to do things the same ways and expect different results. The paradigm shift is trying to take the Adamawa people ‘where they do not necessarily want to go, but ought to be’, thereby promoting good governance in words and deeds. The fact here is that one needs to do things right for things to be right with one. In fact, it is always BEST to do things the BEST ways for positive and concrete results. In the book, the reader will learn how good governance is being practiced in Adamawa State. The emphasis is on teamwork, team spirit, with the governor as the captain, the servant-leader. This is Politics of Renewal as against Politics of Rascality (Politics of Deceit). I state here that politics is not a dirty game as it is being suggested in some quarters. However, there are dirty people in politics and we must NEVER allow them to hold leadership positions.
