Michelle Burrows is the photographer behind the lens. Evoking her taste for photography, Michelle feels like her interest in photography has always been there, without any other influemce from than her inner aspirations. ‘In childhood, I wanted to use the family Box Brownie, I remember we had a Polaroid at one point too. As an adult the camera I used was whatever I could afford at the time. I grew up in the heyday of glossy fashion magazines, and I always looked forward to seeing the meticulous design, composition and overall concept execution of those magazine images.’ Indeed, being a child of the 80s, the glamorous and whimsical work of Annie Leibovitz had a huge influence on her conception of photography. ‘ I know it must sound cliched, but in those days our focus was narrowed to magazine imagery, cinema and a small amount of tv time, instead of the stream of information like we have today. We looked forward to these monthly magazines and their images often came up in discussion amongst my teenage friends.’ Since then, Michelle has been interested in art throughout her life, going to art galleries as often as possible. On the one hand, she also took art and photography classes in high school, and has always enjoyed drawing and painting. On the other hand, Michelle has done weekend workshops in a variety of creative pursuits, including photography, polymer sculpture, and even welded sculpture, also listening to podcasts and audiobooks about art-related topics, as an extent of her artistic education. Once in the studio, Michelle's favorite images are those that show a strong connection with the subject, s captured moment, even when the subject isn’t looking at the camera. ‘The subject is often relaxed and enjoying themselves in front of the camera. I’m still developing my style, though I really enjoy flash photography in the studio.’ Today, Michelle keeps being fascinated when hearing about other people and their life journey. ‘I want to capture images that reflect a part of that person’s story, even if it’s only in a small way.’
