The Kentaurus Cure

As Earth slowly dies in a Nuclear Winter and the Moon and Mars Colonies grow to sizes where they cannot support themselves, a desperate need for a healthy, fertile home for Earth's few remaining healthy inhabitants lead to a large colonization effort to the farthest known Earth-like planet, Rigel, in the Rigel Kentaurus solar system in the Alpha Centauri system. Those left back on Earth struggle to survive a hideous plague, but as the remaining humans realize that this is an extinction level illness, they place themselves into cryonic slumber in hopes that someday, the colonies on Rigil will receive their message and help them.
