
It has been found that travelers identifying themselves as backpackers visit many of the same commercial tourist sites frequented by mainstream tourists. If this is the case, then what sets backpackers apart? Is it their choice of lodging, their age, mode of travel, attitude, education or simply their social motivation in going on 'backpacking' trips in the first place?
