Tommy Silentwolf is a mute Native American boy from the Santee Reservation of Nebraska. His moonshine drunken father drove him away from his home at the age of 8. Ten years later he is found in Omaha Nebraska. A police officer from the Santee is sent to Omaha to fetch him. Bryan White Elk is that officer, a man haunted by nightmares of an attempted Murder/Suicide. Little does he know his dreams are connected to Tommy. Bryan and Tommy attend a sweat lodge and in a vision the two men discover they must journey to the hallowed ground of Wounded Knee. Once there, Tommy gets his voice back from a phantom wolf and Paul Silverhoofs the old Sioux Nation Medicine Man passes a great legacy onto Tommy.
