In the 22nd century, the world lies shattered under the weight of a hundred-year global conflict known as the Century War. Its origin traces back to a vastly more devastating version of September 11, 2001—an event remembered as The Great Betrayal, when seven coordinated hijackings, including one carrying a tactical nuclear device, annihilated the White House, the U.S. Capitol, Lower Manhattan, major infrastructure sites, and triggered a century of escalating warfare.
Major Amanda Dearing, a battle-hardened operative of the Western Democratic Alliance, is chosen to lead an elite team of temporal soldiers—Hartman, Rivas, Samir, Daneski, and Kyle Lankford—on humanity’s final gamble: a one-way jump back to the year 2001. Their objective is absolute and uncompromising:
Prevent the 9/11 attacks from ever occurring—without causing a catastrophic paradox that could destroy the timeline itself.
Once on the ground, the team discovers that history is far more fragile than their training prepared them for. They must operate in a world devoid of their era’s technologies while tracking the Iraqi Mukhabarat agents who, in their own timeline, executed the coordinated nuclear-supported decapitation strike that began the Century War.
But despite their planning, surveillance, and intervention attempts, the mission fails.
The attacks still occur.
The Twin Towers fall, the Pentagon is struck, and Flight 93 crashes in Pennsylvania. The shock is immense—but the worst outcomes of the Great Betrayal do not happen. The nuclear device never detonates. The White House and Capitol remain standing. The infrastructure attacks on Hoover Dam and Three Mile Island never unfold.
The team’s failure unexpectedly creates an opening:
If they cannot stop 9/11, they can still change its nature.
Under Amanda’s leadership, they shift to a desperate backup strategy—subtly influencing events so the attacks become a contained terrorist tragedy rather than the mass-casualty state-sponsored cataclysm that once plunged the world into a century of darkness. Their interventions work—but at a cost.
The altered timeline becomes unstable. Two histories now compete for dominance, causing violent temporal feedback, hallucinations, and the imminent threat that both timelines—including the team—will be erased altogether.
To stabilize the new, improved timeline, the universe demands symmetry:
the paradox must be sealed by the erasure of a conscious anchor—someone who remembers both timelines.
