An autobiography by a young British man who, while training to be a doctor, had an accident on a skiing holiday that resulted in many injuries from which he was frankly lucky to survive. As well as having to contend with spinal cord injury and consequent long-term paralysis from the lower chest down, a complication with his windpipe resulted in inability to speak for almost a year until he had major reconstructive throat surgery. He did indeed need to use all of his reserves simply to survive and contemplating any sort of worthwhile independence early on in his recovery would have seemed fanciful. This book documents his remarkable recovery from hospital to home, return to training to be a doctor and how he has managed to have a truly full life in the face of great adversity. It should appeal to anyone who wants to marvel at and be inspired by his amazing achievements.
