The Fight for Freedom

This is the story of Mary, born into slavery in northern Virginia. Her older brother George has bigger plans for her and they escape the plantation. In their flight, George is shot and killed. Mary makes it to safety and is raised by a white family in Washington, D.C. Mary's dream is to become a doctor but with no formal education and society against her, it looks as though her dream may never come true. Mary is determined, however, and reads every medical book that she can get her hands on. With a lot of willpower, help from friends, and a multitude of prayer, Mary proves that anything is possible if you only believe in yourself enough.
