Petit MAL are three stories taken from The Book of MAL ( middle-aged love), a collection of short stories about Love. In Finland a man waits for his duty of care to his cancer-ridden wife to be over, so he can finally sail away across the ocean to his hearts desire. In a fairytale country cottage four sons gather around their dying mother, the unresolved tensions reducing them all to warring toddlers again.In Dungeness the Man sees his wife in her dying mother, as his life’s hope fades with the ships on the horizon as his Beloved departs forever, and back in Hackney a longsuffering wife finally find an almost perfect love in her almost brain dead spouse. MAL lays bare the difficult sometimes desperate passions of mid life, but within each painful episode there is a seed of peace, the pressing for resolution either though disillusion or acceptance in order to create the space for the possibility of Grace.
