This project examines the fundamental conflict of transportation in cities The aim of this project is to utilize an urban design approach to contribute to the ongoing study and debate on inserting a network of tramways into the urban fabric of Montreal. This project focuses on the north section of the Park Avenue corridor, in Montreal. Understanding the political nature of an undertaking such as light rail transit for the City, this project undertakes a process that capitalizes on investment in public transit to benefit the city as a whole. Through an iterative design process, several scenarios are proposed, and conclusions made for future planning of the corridor. The conclusion of this project is that Park is not the optimal route for the tramway. It would better serve the City for the investment to take place on St-Urbain and St-Laurent, while north of the rail corridor the tramway can capitalize on underutilized lands to contribute to the revitalization of a sector of the city undergoing swift change.
