'CARI MANKA'

“Cari Manka” (“making a living”), is an excursion into the world of gambling and indeed the world of compulsive addiction. to gambling. In “Cari Manka” ( “Making a Living”) Bola meets Sanjay an Indian street-husler, who introduces him to gambling under the pretest that it is making a living -“Cari Manka”! However, Bola soon realizes that gambling is actually not a way of making a living but rather a way of killing life -“Curi Manka” In “Cari Manka.” we see bola go through the phases of gambling; excitement’ enjoyment and addiction. While going through these phases we see the changes on Bolas character! He goes into lying, stealing being evasive of his actions irresponsibility. Apart from this character change, we see Bola having strained relationship with his girlfriend, room-mates, colleagues and superiors. Then gambling starts to impact negatively on his work health and well-being. Bola is however, lucky that his room mates were quick to realize that he has become the victim that need to be rescued. “Cari Manka” talks further about the consequences of addiction to gambling; such as poverty, depression, murder and suicide! “Cari Manka” educates the reader on how to identify the character traits of a gambler how to avoid or drop the addiction to gambling! At the end of the play Bola promptly disengages from Sanjay and appreciates his real friends and his girlfriend who stayed by him while he was under the negative effects of his addiction to gambling. “Cari Manka” is a super-hilarious comedy that is expository and educative.
