Peripheries In Transition: Bordeaux 3.0 & the Rocade

2013 - BORDEAUX VIENNE KUMASI - PERIPHERIES IN TRANSITION [Barbara Chénot Camus] In 2013, responding to the invitation of Vincent Feltesse, Columbia University Urban Design program dedicated its studio on Bordeaux ring road : the Rocade. This final report presents the 4 projects realized in the framework of the spring studio and exhibited in May 2013 at Columbia University in New York. In December 2011, Vincent Feltesse, President of Bordeaux Agglomeration (CUB) gave a presentation at Columbia University for the opening of the « Mayors Institute on City Design »1 workshops dedicated to sustainable urban design. The two successive speeches of the deputy mayor of the city of New York, Cas Holloway, and CUB President highlighted in a startling shortcut, both the shared convictions on the role of the metropolis in developing new urban policies to face climate change, and the differences of approaches from each side of the Atlantic. This very gap was of interest for the Urban Design Program.
