The Muse is an annual publication by the Literature Society, based at the London School of Economics and Political Science and supported by the LSE's Students' Union. Established in 2006, the magazine has quickly become a feature of student life at the LSE, showcasing original creative writing by the LSE's students, staff and alumni. The theme for the 2008/2009 edition is memento:desire, bringing into sharp relief this most human of traits – our obsession with the moment and our reliance on memory to tell us who we are. What this year's achingly honest writing demonstrates is that we truly are analytical animals: dissecting the ephemeral in search of eternal truths, the mundane in the hope of finding the extraordinary. We are dreamers, but beautifully so.
