Power - the ability to act - is one of the most misunderstood and confusing concepts of organizational life.
Sponsorship - the willingness and ability to act in support of specified goals, organizations or individuals - is similarly misunderstood.
The objectives of this book are to:
Clarify the nature of power and sponsorship in organizations.
Evaluate the power and sponsorship available to the workshop organization and the change effort in particular.
Develop approaches to maintain and enhance the power and sponsorship available to the change effort.
We will first discuss organizational power, and then relate that discussion to the application of organizational power that we call sponsorship.
