In the mid 1960’s, Britain had the need to deal with a growing problem – pun unavoidable - of a population that were getting fatter. One method adopted to combat the problem came from the United States. History would later show that following America's example in certain ways was not always a good thing. The situation of getting fat was already a problem in the USA and, like their Trans-Atlantic contemporaries, Britons were to realize that being a little overweight would turn out to be what sounds like the sharp end of a type of lettuce.
