Hainan, “Qiong” for short, situated in the most southern region of China, is a province of the smallest land area and the largest sea area in China. The land area of the whole province is 35,000 square kilometres, with a population of 8.1 million, under its jurisdiction are 2 cities of Haikou (also the provincial capital) and Sanya, 16 counties (autonomous counties) or county-level cities, sea area and isles of Xisha, Zhongsha and Nansha archipelago.
