Jiangxi Province is situated on the south bank of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in Southeast China. Jiangxi Province got its name during Tang Dynasty (733) as Emperor Xuanzong set up a local government, and named Gan for short because the Gan River runs through this province from the north to the south. With a total area of 166,947 square kilometres, Jiangxi Province has a population of more than 43 million, including Han people and some minorities of Hui, She, Miao, Yao, Manchu, Mongolian, Dong, Korean, Tujia and Buyi. The capital of Jiangxi Province is Nanchang City, and there are 11 cities under its jurisdiction, including Nanchang, Jingdezhen, Pingxiang, Jiujiang, Xinyu, Yingtan, Ganzhou, Ji'an, Yichun, Fuzhou and Shangrao.
