This book is a study of four mergers in the phonology of Taiwan Mandarin which constitute some of the major differences between Taiwan Mandarin and Beijing Mandarin. Analysis of the four mergers is based on interviews carried out in Taipei in 1992. The monograph is a reproduction of a Master of Philosophy thesis from Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University.
