The quaint little desert town of Benton has become a mecca for eloping couples, on whom Judge Homer Benton, the town's justice of the peace, relies to supplement his substantial income. Lawyer Ken King has been trying (and failing) to unseat the Judge for 16 years because King (who is also the Judge's grandson) is in dire financial straits. Now, the county assessor has revalued his property and he just doesn't make enough money to pay the new taxes. His situation is complicated by the fact that he is also paying alimony to his ex, who is, as usual, up to no good. In the meantime, his budding office romance seems threatened when he learns that his old army buddy, a legendary lothario, is coming to town. It takes all the ingenuity he can muster plus a bit of good luck -- or maybe magic -- to untangle the financial and romantic webs into which he has fallen.
