In 2001, when a young kid ran a red light and crashed into me doing 30 kph, my new hybrid car was hurled into a concrete lamppost, spun 180 degrees, and flipped on the driver’s side. I was hanging unconscious and lifeless from my seat belt and awoke with a policeman telling the paramedics “I can’t tell if he’s alive!” I later visited a friend who reminded me that I was just given a new life only this time with 50 years of experience.
Following the accident, I made a commitment to live my life in a happy, loving, and caring way, with fun, adventure, and humor. To do that I had to recover and then rediscover a balance between body, mind, and spirit.
So in November 2007, I volunteered for a 5 week scientific dive expedition with Global Vision International to assess the health of a coral reef recently hit by a Force 5 hurricane. This full color journal will take you with me day by day as I continued to refine that balance in the small, Yucatán Peninsula fishing village of Mahahual.
