Trail in BLUE BOOK magazine throughout 1917 The novel takes place during the difficult and dangerous construction of the Union-Pacific Railroad, William Neale’s new-found love in Allie Lee blossoms in unbearable conditions. Fueled by the desire to see the railroad complete, William has to contend with the brutal terrain, bandits, badlands, and displaced Indians. In the midst of all the evil and hatred, William Neale develops a romantic relationship with Allie, creating a surprising twist to the story. In his railroad, William is tactical but the virtuous Allie makes him unpredictable, reckless, and adorable. William and Allie are brought together by mysterious circumstances. Their love remains strong amidst bizarre occurrences. While they struggle against a broken social structure, obstacles block them at every turn. They exemplify the spirit of human survival.
