The origins of THE CAPTAIN AND THE KIDS go all the way back to 1897 when it debuted as THE KATZENJAMMER KIDS. In 1914 creator Rudolph Dirks left the publisher of Katzenjammer and started a rival strips using the same characters, which came to be known as THE CAPTAIN AND THE KIDS. The two strips and series competed with each other for the next six decades, each using the same main characters but developing their own secondary characters and situations. THE CAPTAIN AND THE KIDS appeared in many comics, sometimes as a newspaper reprints feature, and occasionally in an original comic, showing up in every decade since the 1930s! We have the largest public domain collection coming your way, starting with IN THIS BOOK:
