Robert and Katherine Bailey met in church work while teaching children about the Living, Loving Jesus, and they have maintained this bearing during their 37 years of marriage while working as a team in business and social endeavors. They learned of a Mexican, Medal of Honor recipient from the Houston area in 1981 and were intrigued by his story. Robert, a Real Estate professional, was attending a business development meeting in 1997, where the local LULAC president was the speaker. He told a story about the veteran, S/Sgt. Macario Garcia. The Baileys found themselves entrusted and blessed by his family to tell his story. It became their calling. What they present here is based on 17 years of research. They are the official biographers, and Katherine was a presenter in the PBS series, LATINO AMERICANS: War and Peace episode that aired September 2013. The series has been awarded the coveted Peabody Award.
