Haig Urum
Blessed in many ways -- educated in the finest university in Sri Lanka, one of the best in the region; enjoying the rich experience of growing up in the young democracy when times were good, during the honeymoon days of a new democracy-- Haig Urum, left Sri Lanka for the U.S., when the ugly sides of democracy were taking hold; the politicians were starting to sow the seeds of mistrust for personal gains. In a country of mixed race, but of common culture going back many generations --passing down a doctrine of peaceful living and acceptance of all hardship as heavenly assignments-- mistrust and hate mongering were taking center stage for political gains. He witnessed the evolution of the LTTE: its conception, frustrations, devotions and ultimate demise. He saw the drive and support abroad to fund this movement by those who had escaped the conflict, who felt they owed the movement support. They had nothing else left to turn to; for the welfare of the loved ones they left behind.
