After years of searching for my passion, I finally found it. Since 2009, I have served as a Public Affairs Officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs. I have had the great fortune over the last three years to meet men and women who have come face to face with history. In the photo above, that's me, with two Tuskegee airmen. I have met and written stories about Veterans who landed on D-Day, fought on Iwo Jima and survived the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. One of the characters in my book, Friedrich Unger, is modeled after the father of a Veteran I met. American Macbeth is a story I came across 22 years ago while being stationed at Fort McClellan, Alabama. I was curious as to why this fort was named after a Union General. When I did a little research, I was stunned to discover how close General McClellan had come to overthrowing Lincoln.
