Tom Cotton was formerly an industrial chemist, who now lives with his wife of 60 years in happy retirement in south-east England. His life-long interest was Roman history (particularly of the Late Republic) and the Latin language. In 1982 he began a series of translations into Latin of modern works, which first appeared on an internet website, five of which are now published in both paperback and e-book form. After retirement, Tom gave a series of 24 lectures to his local branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A), the edited texts of which he offers as a paperback, 'The Rise of Rome'. Tom's latest translation into Latin is of 'Three Men in a Boat', the comic novel by Jerome K Jerome.
