Ron was born and grew up in British Columbia. He lives with his wife, Dana, in Sidney, on Vancouver Island. He and Dana travel extensively in Europe, Central America and Asia. Ron received a B.Sc. in Bacteriology and Zoology from the University of British Columbia in 1965 and a MA from Gon-zaga in 1979. He began a 22-year teaching career in Jamaica teaching tropical biology. He later transferred to St. Vincent (a tiny island in the eastern Caribbean) as the Head Master of the high school in Georgetown. After returning to Canada, Ron taught senior biology for most of the next twenty years. He joined the Ministry of Education in Victoria in 1990 where for the next ten years he was engaged in educational testing as well as the writing and development of Grade 12 examinations. for the province.
