AMARU is an award winning independent recording artist and filmmaker, a trained actor, a published author, photographer and model. He made his television debut in the mid eighties in his native country The Republic of Suriname, South America, and after moving to Europe he pursued his artistic dreams. He studied acting in the USA and in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and he has starred in (independent) films, TV-shows and commercials and print ads, among others. In 2018 he released his debut album "Champagne Attitude", which won two gold awards at the Global Music Awards in California, USA. AMARU made his literary debut in December 2020 with the release of his cookbook "AMARU COOKS - A Touch Of Suriname Through Food & Anecdotes", which contains delicious recipes from his homeland, combined with great anecdotes and stories from his native country. His cookbook has received a nomination from the very prestigious cookbook award show "Gourmand International Cookbook Awards" for their awards show of November 2022. In March of 2021 the "Accolade Global Film Competition", based in California, USA has awarded AMARU five awards for his work as a filmmaker. Two of the music videos, which he has executive produced and directed as well as his music documentary have been awarded this highly prestigious film award.
