Michael B. Edwards
I was identified learning disabled and hyperactive. My parents were advised I would never graduate from High School. Finding my success in Track and Field I found the confidence to attend my regular high school and ultimately college. I taught for 17 years before becoming a middle school principal. During my first week as a middle school principal a parent came in concerned for her child's academic progress. I listened as she experssed fear for having her son identified and placed in special education classes. For the first time in my professional career I told the parent my story. I wanted to give parents hope that just because their child has a disability this does not mean they can't be successful.
