Bill McNease served in the US Army as an OV-1 Mohawk pilot. MOS 101DO. He joined in December 1969 and served until April 1974. He graduated as Distinguished Graduate of his flight school class, 70-45, and was selected as a Mohawk pilot. Mohawk units were the 225th SAC, Tuy Hoa, June 1971-December 1971, 73rd SAC Long Than, January 1972-April 1972 and the 222nd SAC, Fairbanks, Alaska-April 1972-April 1974. He was awarded 13 Air Medals and the Bronze Star in Vietnam and flew 172 combat missions. He is still an active pilot (2014) with 18,500 flight hours and 25 type ratings in large aircraft. He holds Airline Transport Pilot ratings from the US, Switzerland, Malawi, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica, Hungary and Indonesia. In 2007 he was awarded the Adm. Luis de Florez Memorial Award by the Flight Safety Foundation. This award, presented since 1966, recognizes “outstanding individual contributions to aviation safety, through basic design, device or practice.”
