I grew up during the Great Depression in a three-generation railroading family. I never expected to be anything but a railroad man and had a great respect and affection for the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen in my early union days. Later I became unhappy with the United Transportation Union and its sell-out policies which are detailed in my personal memoir, Head Pin and Wash Up: a Life in Railroading and Activism. I have a passion for history and genealogy, and I'm a member of the Mayflower Society. I frequently comment on politics in the editorial pages of the local Boston newspapers. Now retired, I live in a suburb of Boston and spend most of my time rooting for my children and grandchildren while they take part in their range of activities and accomplishments.
