About
Edgar C. Taylor, Jr.
While driving from Golden Lake, Ontario to New York many years ago, sometime after crossing the border, Edgar needed to stop to get gas. After filling up in a town that has long been forgotten, he and his wife, Susan, decided to get something for lunch. After ordering, Edgar went to clean up and saw the typical "Employees must wash their hands" sign, but this somehow made an impression, and he knew it. After lunch they went back to the car - Edgar's beloved VW camper bus - and just before pulling away, he asked Susan to “Write down the name Jason Phallis.” A week or so later, back in Ann Arbor, Edgar started to write what has become the first of several novels. From the outset, Edgar assumed that Jason Phallis was going to be himself, the narrator. But as he wrote, he learned from a phone call that Jason Phallis was to be a client. When he wrote the dialogue “Hello, this is Laughton Phillips . . . . I’m returning your call.” our protagonist was identified. Since then, Edgar has completed a total of seven Laughton Phillips novels. In order, they are: The Jason Phallis Principal • Lost Hope • Don't Ask, Please Don't Ask • Trick or Treat • Missing? Gone? • Attic Dance • Where's Frankie? • Judd...ment • Clipped and Consequences
